The University of Cincinnati offers students a balance of educational excellence and real-world experience. The co-op movement, in which students simultaneously earn academic credit while working in the real world, was born at UC. Each year, this public, research-intensive university enrolls more than 40,000 students and graduates 5,000 of them, adding to more than 200,000 alumni around the world.

Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning outside of the original 13 colonies. UC’s Academic Health Center has positioned itself as a leader in groundbreaking contributions to society. These honors and discoveries include the Sabin oral polio vaccine, the first antihistamine (Benadryl – George Rieveschl) and the first use of YAG laser to remove brain tumors.

The University of Cincinnati is also a leader in education innovation, including the first bachelor’s degree in nursing and the first Emergency Medicine training program. The rapid adaptation and innovative developments in distance learning are among the largest and latest. The university is categorized at the highest level of higher education, as a Doctoral/Research University – Extensive by the Carnegie Commission, which recognizes the notable achievements of UC’s faculty, research, novel curriculum and program accreditations. UC encompasses 4 campuses totaling 473 acres in Cincinnati, Ohio. The university is the largest employer in the Cincinnati region, with an economic impact of more than $3 billion.
