William Whitaker, PhD

William (Bill) Whitaker is a Professor for the health administration programs. His is also a Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance and Real Estate, College of Business, University of Cincinnati. Teaching and research responsibilities focus on business finance, financial institutions and real estate. On behalf of the University, he co-chairs the Steering Committee for the conversion of the academic calendar from a quarter system to semester system, to be effective Fall 2012.

From December 2005 to August 2009, Dr. Whitaker served as Senior Associate Dean, College of Business, University of Cincinnati, where he was operationally responsible for administering a unit including over 100 faculty and staff with an annual budget exceeding $17 million.

Through December 2005, Bill was Manager, Real Estate Investment Research for Nationwide Insurance. Bill was responsible for conducting market and strategic research in support of a portfolio of assets exceeding $10 billion. The portfolio contained commercial mortgage loans, tax credit equity investments, CMBS holdings and other third party CML holdings.

Before joining Nationwide in 2003, Bill had worked for AIG and Prudential Insurance companies in real estate research. While at Prudential, his primary focus was domestic equity real estate and capital markets. During his tenure at AIG, his focus was international direct equity investment in real estate.

Before entering the private sector, Dr. Whitaker had an extensive career in academics. He has been a faculty member at several universities: Florida State University, Morehead State University, Georgia Southern University and Ohio University. Throughout his career, he has published extensively with 32 articles, 31 reports and 24 other works produced to date. His articles have appeared in such journals as: Real Estate Finance, The Real Estate Finance Journal, Commercial Investment Real Estate Journal, Appraisal Review and Mortgage Underwriting Journal and Decision Sciences.

Raised in Morehead, Kentucky, he obtained his undergraduate degree with honors from Morehead State University, majoring in Accounting and Mathematics. He obtained his M.B.A. and Ph. D. (Business and Economics) from the University of Kentucky.

He has served as a Governor’s appointee to the Georgia Joint Committee on Revenue Structure, Board member of the Kentucky Council on Economic Education, and Director of the Kentucky Association of Realtors.
